Hello MLS fans! It's June 1st and we're kicking off a new month of inspiration from our design team. Today designer Shemaine Smith is creating with Home Tweet Home and sharing some layout inspiration and a couple of tricks you can use to add interest to your pages.
She loves dad
"My daughter can be a bit difficult to photograph these days. Sometimes the best photos can be ones where the subject isn't looking like the top photo of my daughter. I based my title on her expression as she's looking at her dad."
I love layering and matting paper. Bird house is my favorite sheet of paper from this collection so I knew it would make a great background. I matted it with a similar color solid cardstock to make the pattern pop and then layered it with pink double dot Bazzill. I also used my Cricut to cut the basket and then layered the coordinating cardstock stickers with pop dots. I also used the mini alphas to document the year and nestled them in the flowers.
My two kids
With this layout I wanted to show that you can use a pattern as your base and layer solid cardstock to create your layout. Choose your solid colors by pulling some of the color out of the patterned cardstock like I did here with the orange. To add interest I added a 3 dimensional element by cutting out one of the trees and layering with pop dots. I did so with the clouds too.
Thanks to Shemaine for sharing her work with us today. We hope you'll give some of her tips a try with your next layout. As always we love seeing what you create with My Little Shoebox so be sure and post your work to our Facebook wall. You never know when you'll be spotted for our monthly newsletter!
We'll be announcing the winners of our Farmers Market contest later today so stay tuned for that post!
