"Oh, Deer" In The Woods!!

Hi, all MLS fans. Carol here with 2 cards and 1 project using the adorable "Oh, Deer!" collection. I love the woodsy feel of this collection and the oh so adorable deer and mushroom!!! When I saw this collection, lot of ideas just flow into my mind!!!

"My Deer Friend" Postcard Card

I cut out the respective papers, inked and layered them with foam strips. I made it to be like a postcard using my postal stamps. Again popped up the journaling tag with foam strips and adhered the alpha stickers for the title. I made this for a dear friend of mine. 

I love the Deer and the Tree "Stamps".

"I Wood Like To Say..." Card

Besides the deer, I love the cute mushrooms and this "woodgrain" paper!! So I made a "tree trunk" card with it. I layered and popped up the leaves and acorn stickers at the top.

For this card, I also embellished the inside of the card with the journaling tag and stickers.

Supplies: White cardstock (Bazzill); MLS papers: A Walk In The Woods, Happy Campers, Cardstock sticker, Mini Alpha Stickers (Apple, Red Lipstick); Foam Strips (Scrapbook Adhesive); Zig Pen; Distress Inks.

"Oh, Deer! My Mushroom Dollhouse!"

The first moment I lay my eyes on this paper collection, a mushroom dollhouse idea for my girl just pop into my mind. I went to a local craft store and grabbed some basswood and the foam semi dome. I sawed the wood using a small manual saw and pasted the papers with multi-medium. Then I sanded the edges and glued them together with wood glue before nailing them.  I painted the foam dome and adhered punched circles to make the mushroom head. I made the "clothline" with the banner diecuts and MLS green ribbon. It was a tiring job to saw and sand the wood. My arms were sore after this but I'm very happy with the result. So is my girl. She always wanted me to make a dollhouse for her. 

Here's some detailed close ups:

I used the journaling tags as the "carpets". I didn't glue these down as I would want to update and change the "carpets" whenever I want. I made the 2 deers with the stickers glued unto chipboard and made the "leg" for them to stand. So they are the dollhouse owners!! The furnitures are from my and my girl's toy collection.

For both sides of the dollhouse, I adhered the tree and mushroom stickers and sealed them in with multi-medium.

I made this table with a round wood and some wooden spools. Adhered the table top with paper and sanded them down. I made "bowls" out of the leaf die-cuts and also glued the acorn stickers unto chipboard (to make it more dimensional) to make the "food".

I made a simple flower garden corner with the flower die-cuts and mushroom stickers. The lamp post was made using Sizzix die.

The Beauty of "Notebook"

Hello, My Little Shoebox friends!  I'm excited to share my latest projects with the new "Notebook" collection. This adorable collection includes sweet roses, plaid, and sticker friends.

For added dimension, I inked and distressed the paper edges.  I also elevated my stickers with dimensional adhesive.

I just love those sweet flags and banners.  They really add to the charm of this collection. I added tiny pearls to the trim at mid-page.

I also created this sweet goody jar.  I filled mine with lots of ribbons and trim, but wouldn't it be wonderful filled with tasty candy?

Heat Embossing Tutorial

Hello MLS friends.  Linda here with a quick tutorial showing how heat embossing can be a wonderful technique to dress up any project, card, layout, or album.  For this tutorial, I've made a card using the Secret Garden collection from MLS.  I love butterflies, and this collection is truly delightful and fun!

For heat embossing, you need the following:  Heat embossing tool, Watermark stamp pad, anti-static bag, opaque embossing powder, and a stamp (background or individual icon, such as a flower).

This is the card I made using the heat embossing technique:

Step 1:  Choose the paper you want to emboss.  Rub the anti-static pad across the paper.  Next, use the watermark stamp pad on your stamp (s), then sprinkle the embossing powder over your stamped image, then pour of the excess.  On this card, I used four different flower stamps, and stamped them randomly.  Last, heat the images until the powder turns a shiny white.

Step 2: Either use the embossed piece as a background, or use a die cut that will allow you to see something you place on the inside of the card.

 

Step 3:  I used the same stamps (using an ink pad, not embossing) on the inside of the card so they would show through the cie cut front of the card.

 

 

 The last step is to embellish the card.  Using a floral paper in the Secret Garden collection, I heat embossed two butterflies, using black embossing powder, and adhered them  to  the front and the inside portion of the card.  The card was finished with a strip from another paper in the collection, a sentiment, and a button.

I hope this tutorial inspired you to try heat embossing.  It is fun and elegant, and can be used so many ways!

Card making with Coming Home

Hello MLS fans. Shemaine here posting today and I am sharing some card making inspiration using our Coming Home collection.

I love saving my scraps for card making because lately I have really been trying to use up all of whatever collection I am creating with. How many times have you cleaned out your scrap space and had tons of extra paper left over? All that paper is perfect for creating hand made cards for friends and loved ones.

How do I store my scraps you ask? Well that is the key to my organization. I have a single 12x12 bin that my scraps go in. When it starts to get 1/2 full, I make cards to empty it out.  Oh back in the day I had a box with hanging files and I used to file them by color and season. Well after time I accumilated way too many scraps so I came up with plan B.

Alright, here's what I created with my scraps.

For this card I went all girl. I loved mixing the pink plaid in Park Avenue and the pink ruffle trim. I made this card for our dear friend's daughter who turned 7 a few weeks ago.

Sometimes the simpliest design can make for a beautiful card. I love that cloud design in the Towne Square patterned paper.

Carol's Notes: I made a butterfly notepad. Used the trim to make a rosette. DIY my own buttons/brads using MLS papers.Added MLS trims and pearl trim as the "tail". Also made 2 extra rosettes that can be adhere onto any project for quick embellishing.

Vintage Shop Joy

Hello MLS fans.  Linda here with layouts and cards using the beautiful Vintage Shop collection  from My Little Shoebox.  The pretty flowers, vintage papers and adorable little owls made creating easy and fun! 

On my first of 2 layouts, I went crazy with tearing paper and inking everything! 

I die cut a frame with the French Lace paper, and popped it over the Heirloom owl paper.  The owls are foam dotted on branches, and some seam binding and lace finished the layout.  Lucy and Hannah, my granddaughters, are thrilled with the owls!

Supplies: MLS Chocolate and Chiffon card stock, French Lace paper, Heirloom paper, Cardboard Stickers, 3D Roll-Up Flowrs, Chocolate Mini Letters, Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Seam binding, and lace.

For my 2nd layout, I changed the look but kept the vintage feel.

Here I used Picket Fence distress stain to softer the left edge of the background and the strip of Rose Ribbon paper.  I used strips from the same paper and some ribbon and lace to add contrast and dimension.  Doilies, some pearls, and some foam dotted flowers and stickers completed the picture.  Two pictures of Kenzie, my granddaughter, just jumped onto the page!

Supplies: Rose Ribbon papers, Attic Treasures paper, Cardboard Stickers, Newsprint Alphabet Stickers, Tim Holtz Picket Fence Distress Stain, Sizzex Doily Die, Ribbon and lace.

Here is my first card, having fun with the large, cute owl.

I wanted this card to be a little more masculine, so I used the blue and black theme.  The background is layered using the French Lace paper ( both sides)and, black cardstock.  Other: Oval Quik Kutz die, and some ribbon.

My 'Hello' card focuses on the lovely flowers in this collection.

I love the gorgeous roses in this collection, and they are the background and centerpiece of my card.  I wanted to stress the vintage feel. so I inked the background papers.  The lace, white doily and seam binding bring out some of the fabulous colors in the Vintage Shop collection.

Supplies: French Lace and Attic Treasures, Cardboard Stickers, Cream Mini Alphabet Stickers, Vintage Photo Distress Ink, dark green seam binding, and white vintage lace.
