Good Morning MLS fans! Megan here kicking off another week of inspiration on the MLS blog.
This month I worked with Vintage shop. With all the adorable owls, I knew I wanted to make a bird house. I picked up this wooden birdhouse with a metal top on the clearance rack at Michael's for about $.70 !
I measured the areas that I wanted to cover then trimmed the paper to fit. I like to err on the side of larger and then trim down slowly to get an exact, or close to exact, fit. I had painted the edges first with a light brown paint, just in case any edges ended up showing.
For the holes in the front, I just covered them over, then located them by feel and used a file to file the paper all the way around. for the posts, I pulled them out before covering, then located the holes by feel and poked them with the file also.
I used dimensional adhesive behind the flower cluster and the cloud, so that they could overhang the edge. Again for the wire hanger, I pulled it out before covering and then poked it back in afterward. I often find with altered items that it's easiest to start by removing anything you possibly can, even if it means pulling out nails, screws or glue. As long as it wont ruin the object, you can put it back on afterward and save yourself some hassle trying to go around it.
Supplies: Vintage Shop Papers: Rose Ribbon, French Lace, Attic Treasures
Vintage Shop Stickers,
Other: Wooden birdhouse, brown paint, dimensional adhesive, Mod Podge
I also created this layout. Here I used the fun new Unity/My Little Shoebox stamps and embossed them on the background. I also used some mist and a mask to create the chevron pattern.
Other than that, I used a LOT of die cuts and stickers here. I just love the new die cuts with the leaves and the little banners.
