Even more decorative punch ideas

Hello MLS fans! We're back with even more decorative punch ideas. Today we have some projects from Monique and Jenifer to share with you.

Let's start with...

For my punch inspired project, I used the "Oh, Deer!" collection and two border punches from Fiskars: Grass Border Punch and a 2-in-1 Corner & Border Punch (Wave).

 

Next up is...

 

For my project I used 2 different Fiskars punches and the Coming Home collection.  I like to Layer my punches to give them some texture, as you can see I put 5 layers on the top and then put my banner on top of that.

More Decorative punches inspiration

Hello MLS fans. Thanks for stopping by for another day of inspiration using decorative punches. A few of our favorite punches are ones by Martha Stewart, EK Success, Fiskers and We R Memory Keepers to name a few.

Today Beckie is sharing some projects she created with punches by Kuretake with the Secret Garden collection.

Shemaine's Notes: I like created texture with punches for layouts and cards by punching strips of the same color cardstock and layering them.

Tuesday Tutorial - Box o' Tags

 

Hello, MLS Fans! Hope you had a wonderful weekend! It's my turn to share a tutorial, and I've used the Oh Deer! collection to create a fun project that will be perfect for gift-giving during the holidays: a set of gift tags inspired by Fall!

 

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the Wood Tag shape (available in the Silhouette Online Store) in two different sizes. You'll be using the Print and Cut feature on the Silhouette, so you'll need to make sure you turn on the registration marks setting before you print the design onto cardstock.

I cut two large tags (sized at 4.25" on the long side) to go on the outside of the box, and I cut ten smaller tags (sized at 3.75" on the long side) to go inside. You can certainly cut more or less, but ten is a good number to fill up the box.

Once you have your tags cut, it's time to make the box. Start by cutting a sheet of cardstock (I used the Linen/Carnation from My Little Shoebox) to 8 1/2" x 9".

Next, score each side at 3". In other words, score one side at 3", then turn the paper and score at 3" and turn again until you have four score lines.

Turn your paper over and find the 9" long side. Cut along the score lines toward the middle as shown here.

Then fold in your sides to create the box.

Attach the large tags to the front and back of the box. I used double-sided tape.

So your box will look like this:

Cut a strip of the leftover cardstock to 3/4" wide by 7 1/2" long to create a handle for your box. Attach each end to the back of each tag where it meets the box. I added a brad to cover the hole on each side, but you could use a button or whatever you have handy.

Next, it's time to decorate! I used cardstock stickers and additional Silhouette cuts to match the collection. I also used a to/from stamp on each tag, but you could easily handwrite "to" and "from" if you don't have a stamp handy.

I also tied a strand of ribbon or trim through each tag so they can be easily attached to a gift.

And here is my finished box with all the tags inside:

There are plenty of possibilities for creating all kinds of gift tags. Try mixing collections or using mini alphabet stickers for a different look!

Grace's Notes:

I created a scallop border around my page using the scallop border punch from EK Success. I love how easy it is to create intricate designs in our pages with the use of border punches. I also added some emphasis to my title by cutting the “braces” design punched initially on cardstock using the Fiskars border punch.

French Lace, Heirloom, and Rose Ribbon patterned paper.

Liz's Notes: For my card I used a Fiskar's border punch to create several layers of the pink paper in our Vintage Shop collection. This is a fun way to add texture to your projects. I also used our French Lace paper to create a mosiac look for the background. Inking the edges of squares gives them depth as well.

Lovely Notebook Collection Layouts

Hi Jenifer here with you today to share some layouts using the Notebook collection.  I know I say this every time but I LOVE this collection.  The colors are beautiful and they go with any project.

For my first layout I used all of the scraps that I had left over on my desk and the layout just came together.  It's pretty simple but "lovely".

Here is a close up, I ran a piece of bakers twine right through the center and it just helped tie the pieces together.

For my second layout I really wanted to use the blue and white striped paper, so I cut out the center and started layering from there.

Here is a close up of my banner, I used 3D foam squares from Therm O Web to give me some depth.  I also used a fine pt pen to trace some lines around the edges to help give it some more definition.

Another one of my favorite things to do is to take one of the smaller rolled flowers and use it in my picture.

For my last layout I wanted to give it a quilted look.  I made the diamond pattern with a pencil and then I went over the lines with my sewing machine for the grid.  I think this is one of my favorite layouts ever.  Don't be afraid to use your sewing machine to help with your design.

Here is a close up, as you can see I used a rolled flower in my picture again.

Hello MLS fans! We're back with more from November's Guest Designer, Kimber McGray!

 

Earlier this year Kimber released her 4th book, 100 Fresh and Fun Handmade cards.

 

Kimber's book has so many fabulous card ideas along with some product tips and tricks that will help the begininner to advanced card maker create fabulous cards.

We are so pleased to have Kimber joining us this month on the MLS blog. We asked Kimber to use her creative skills to create a fab layout with My Little Shoebox's Notebook collection.

We love that Kimber added faux stitching to her layout using a black pen.

Using foam 3D adhesive is a great way to add dimension to our cardstock stickers. We love Therm-o-Web's 3D foam squares.

Our journaling blocks make it easy to tell your story. We love how Kimber incorporated this one into her design.

And finally, one more card.

This simple design makes for an adorable card and shows how white pen can add cute!
