Tuesday Tutorial with Becky

Hello MLS fans! One of my favorite things to do while scrapbooking is to make my own embellishments.  Sure, most collections come with coordinating embellishments but it's so much fun to make your own! I'm going to show you how to quickly and easily create some layered dimensional elements that are quite popular these days!

Materials needed: patterned paper, adhesive, staples or glue, string or other embellishment, your favorite paper punch.

1. Gather materials and then use your favorite punch to create several of each size for each embellishment you will make. I chose a butterfly because they're my favorite!

2.  I knew I'd be making 3 butterflies with 3 pieces each so I simply punched butterflies from different sheets of MLS paper and layered them. Punch as many as you will need in a variety of colors and/or sizes.  Glue the butterflies together in the center with a strong glue or with staples. 

 

3. Once the glue or staple is set you can "fluff up" the layers to give them more dimension. 

4. You can keep the staples visible or cover the center of the shapes with string or other desired product (rhinestones, pearls, twine, etc.)  and then adhere to your card, layout or other project.

Twice a month, we've been showing you a series of video tutorials from design team member Mandy Starner and today is the last video of her flower technique series. We hope you enjoy learning to create your own paper flowers from this technique!

Tuesday Tutorial with Linda

Hello MLS fans! It's time for another fabulous tutorial from one of our team members. Today we have Linda joining us to share a fun ribbon technique with you.

Ribbon Ruching by Linda Kretz

 

Use a piece of ribbon that is 5/8 or larger for the best result.  The ribbon should be about 2 and 1/2 times the size of the project.  The first step is to mark the ribbon on both sides in one-inch increments.  Use a running stitch between the marked points.  I used a contrasting color for demonstration purposes, but matching thread is also nice!

 

 

This shows the extended stitching for the length of the ribbon.  Please make sure your thread is one length for the entire ribbon - do not use shorter lengths, as it will end up uneven in appearance.

 

 Once you have finished stitching, begin gently pulling the thread from each end, which will begin the process of gathering the ribbon.  It can be a loose look, or you can pull it tighter for a more compact look.  Once you have the desired look and length, tale a couple of stitches at each end, and loop into a knot.

 

The finished rushed ribbon is now ready to be used on a card, layout, or  project in many ways.  Happy embellishing!!!

Tuesday Tutorial with Norine

Hello MLS fans! It's time for another Tuesday Tutorial! Today we have designer Norine Borys showing you something fun so let's get to it!

Hi everyone, Norine here with the July tutorial.  What I'm going to show you today is not new, nor is it especially difficult.  It involves a little bit of fussy cutting but that's about as challenging as it gets!

I love My Little Shoebox stamps and their outline designs are particularly suitable for this kind of application.  Not to mention a wonderful way to use up the bits and scraps leftover after a layout or project.



Start by using black Stazon ink, and stamp repeated images on a variety of different colors and patterns of MLS scraps.




Using a pair of sharp tipped scissors, cut out the shapes, cutting along the outside of the thick stamped lines.
 

When you have everything cut out, layer and assemble the pieces to form the complete image.  Feel free to re-arrange or add to the design.  Use a glue pen and tweezers to adhere the small pieces and complete a card or layout embellishment as desired!

Hello MLS fans! It's Tuesday and time for another fabulous tutorial from our design team. Today Becky Williams has a tip to share with you so take it away Becky...

Hello! Today I'm going to share with you something I do on just about every one of my layouts and cards. It's one of my favorite things to do, but something quite quick and easy- doodling. All it takes is a few minutes and an ink pen and it can add great detail to your project. 

I enjoy doing faux stitching on a page either a running stitch or in a line that goes around the page. For me it's so much easier than fighting with my sewing machine! The fun thing about doodling is that it doesn't have to be perfect so don't worry too much if your lines aren't straight or perfectly spaced. Just have fun with it! 

You can add doodling around your pictures, around the edge of your layout or card or even on the embellishments. You can doodle on anything and any way you want to- faux stitching, zigzags, swirly lines, whatever you like!
